This Week on Kiva

Hi there,
We’re getting ready to roll out another release later this week, and we just wanted to send out a heads up before our new features hit the shelves.

One thing we’ve been pushing pretty hard lately is invitations. We need people to invite their friends/families/anyone they think would be interested in lending on Kiva so that we can get more entrepreneurs funded. So, we’ve done a couple things in this release:

Kiva and Halloran Philanthropies to host a Microfinance Reception in Philadelphia

2007 has marked the year of many new and beautiful relationships for Kiva. One relationship in particular that is very near and dear to my heart out here in Philadelphia has been with the folks at Halloran Philanthropies. The newly formed foundation has not only supported Kiva's organizational growth, but has gone full-force in supporting a number of institutions in the microfinance space, globally.

CA First Lady Maria Shriver visits Kiva!

Guess who dropped by the office yesterday?

None other than CA First Lady Maria Shriver, who came by to visit and say "Hi" to the Kiva team!

Maria was in town to launch WE Invest, a Women's Economic Empowerment Initiative, in Oakland.

We were really honored to meet The First Lady, and that she gave some time out of her day to meet the Kiva team. Come again anytime!

About Group Loans...

Towards the end of last year, Kiva decided to allow partners to post loans for groups of borrowers in addition to individual borrowers. The main reason we decided to move forward with this is that it represents a truer picture of what’s happening on the ground since many borrowers actually borrow in groups. It also allows our microfinance field partners to more efficiently seek funding for larger numbers of entrepreneurs – before, they would be supporting groups of borrowers but would have to enter them one by one into the Kiva system.
