"The sense of solidarity"

- Josie, Postcards Bien Cool

Bien Cool was created with the idea of developing a funny greeting cards brand using regional slang to express what the people want to say in the way the really speak. This idea was created to get a second income to pay my student loans from a masters studied in United States. It was just that: one idea with that objective. Soon after, I saw potential and decided to quit my full time job and make this project my new professional journey.

With the high interest rates in student loans, I was scared of asking for more money to make Bien Cool grow, even when I knew my business needed capital investment in order to put my product in more point of sales. Thanks to Kiva, Bien Cool was able to receive a $5,000 loan with 0% of interest seven months ago.

We’ve grown quickly thanks to the loan through Kiva. It allowed us to produce greeting cards and new displays for 30 local business around Puerto Rico. Today, Postales Bien Cool is being sold in 80 stores, including 6 Walmarts, launching our first Agenda and Stationery collection designed by us, and opening our first shop in Old San Juan.

Even though the 0% of interest seems to be very attractive, what I really liked the most of Kiva was the sense of solidarity among the thousands of people from around the world who, without knowing me, believed in my project and helped me grow miles and miles away.
